* '''What's New''': CanadianWiki has added a new feature called Page Preview. This allows you to move your mouse over an internal wiki link, and preview the page in a small popup before deciding to visit that page or not. CanadianWiki has enabled his by default for all users. We are aware that this may not be enabled for non registered users and, may not display images for registered users. We will look for the causes for this in due time.

* '''Fighting Spam''': CanadianWiki has been proactive in combating spam as best as possible and while we can't say for 100% sure it we have been successful, we are confident the more we fight, the harder it is for fake accounts to win. We have added a spam block protection and, the more we learn about what types of spam is being used, the more we add to the spam block. However, we are trying to be careful as to what is being blocked so to, not affect legitimate users who might want to add a word or symbol. If there is a block in place on a word or symbol you may have used, please let CanadianWiki know right away.

CanadianWiki has been monitoring the increase of new accounts on CanadianWiki over the past several months. New accounts can be a good thing if the intention is good. However, we have noticed some new accounts creating new accounts under the same IP address, and creating new content that are now considered for Speedy Deletion. Those accounts have been blocked for 3 months for violating CanadianWiki article practices, and other accounts to those IP addresses have been auto blocked. Blocking an account for any reason is not a decision we take lightly but, we felt there was enough evidence to suggest these accounts and articles are no coincidence. We at CanadianWiki take serious and proactive steps to protect the integrity of CanadianWiki and our users. If you have been blocked, and wish to contest this action, you are more than welcome to do so.

* '''New CAPTCHA''': CanadianWiki has implemented a new CAPTCHA on our platform. Before, non registered users were required to click on images before an edit was successful. Now, we have replaced this with a new system which requires a user to answer a question or input a code word clearly displayed. These CAPTCHA's will change from time to time to, prevent bots from guessing these passwords/answers, and makes it harder for spammers to win. We would like to inform you that, if an answer to a question is a number, you must input the number in a numerical form not alphabet form. Ex: A question could be: "How many Provinces are there in Canada? You would answer 10, not Ten.

CanadianWiki will be reviewing our account creation process and will be determining if it's sufficient or, if CanadianWiki will need to add more security to prevent potential bots from circumventing the steps we have in place. We always encourage users to report suspicious activity to CanadianWiki as soon as possible. If you want to see if you have been blocked, and to see the reason why there was a block, please visit [[Special:BlockList]]. During the evening of May 16th, CanadianWiki staff held a meeting to discuss CanadianWiki actions on spam pages, and whether they should be selected for "Speedy Deletion" or deleted and the account/IP banned as a result. ''We have decided that spam pages will be deleted right away, skipping the required Speedy Deletion which would allow a user contest a Speedy Deletion. Also, that account/IP address associated with the spam page will be suspended (banned) for no more than 3 months for the first offense''. We are aware some pages may be considered as spam if not written correctly. CanadianWiki does read these articles and a judgement is made on those pages, but it's important to note that when writing a legitimate article, you need to have it in the standard wiki standard. Take a look through Canadian wiki and know how articles are written, notice the layout, citations or references, titles, website links, etc. If we find it too difficult to patrol these pages, we will consider adding a Global Block. This means any IP address banned on Wikipedia or any Wiki website, would be prevented from creating an account, or editing on CanadianWiki. This is a route we wish not go down but, we have this as a last resort.

Atlantic Hurricane Season Begins Soon

Hurricane-Season-Blog-e1468865083870.png

The 2018 Atlantic Hurricane Season is an upcoming event in the annual formation of tropical cyclones in the Northern Hemisphere. The season will officially begin on June 1, 2018, and end on November 30, 2018. These dates historically describe the period each year when most tropical cyclones form in the Atlantic basin and are adopted by convention. However, the formation of tropical cyclones is possible at any time of the year.
